Why is lubricant needed for the wire drawing process?
Lubricants play a vital role in the wire drawing process by significantly reducing the friction that occurs between the wire and the die. This reduction in friction not only allows for the necessary slip of the wire on the capstan helping to manage speed differential, it also creates a smoother drawing process contributing to a finer surface finish on the wire.
Additionally, wire drawing lubricant aids in heat management, effectively dissipating the heat generated from the friction. This helps prevent potential damage to both the wire and the die from overheating.
