07 Oct Lubricool 960 a Revolution for Sustainable Copper Wire Production
Metalube are proud to announce the latest addition to our leading, next generation series of Lubricool™ 900 products with the addition of Lubricool™ 960.
Representing the latest in Metalube’s technical advancement and product innovation, Lubricool™ 960 is a truly next generation, sustainable lubricant solution for the wire drawing industry.
Sustainability is at the core of Lubricool 960. Developed to help manufacturers reduce environmental impact, it offers a fully synthetic, mineral oil-free solution for modern wire drawing operations. By eliminating mineral oil, Lubricool 960 supports cleaner production, easier waste management, and improved operator and environmental safety – without compromising performance
With high energy consumption and tank sizes failing to keep up with the industry demand, manufacturers require wire drawing lubricants that can meet the new, growing demand of 64 wire machines, while remaining effective and efficient.
In addition to our recently launched Lubricool™ 955, our latest solution, Lubricool™ 960, offers the same leading technologies and high performance for the wire drawing industry.
Features and Benefits
- Sustainability at its core: Mineral oil–free formulation supports cleaner production, easier waste management, and improved operator and environmental safety.
- Optimal lubrication: Protects tooling and ensures an exceptional surface finish.
- Superior cooling: Provides exceptional heat dissipation to keep dies and wire cool, reducing wear and improving process efficiency.
- Excellent copper soap resistance: Minimises build-up for smoother operation and longer tool life.
- Machine cleanliness: Maintains clean machinery and excellent bacterial resistance.
Lubricool™ 960 has been designed for a wide range of applications – from intermediate to super fine wire on both plain and tinned copper. It is particularly suited to meet the demands of modern multi-wire machines.
The unique combination of natural and synthetic additives provides maximum lubrication and wear reduction on dies and capstans, which also results in outstanding surface finish on drawn wire.
Lubricool™ 960 excels in improving performance
A solution is only as good as the results it provides… Luckily, Lubricool™ 960 has already excelled during initial case studies, offering manufacturers some truly game changing results.
During a recently conducted product trial at a leading bimetallic manufacturer in the UK, Lubricool™ delivered the following key results:
Achieving some incredible production gains and product quality improvements across the board, Lubricool™ 960 was noted to achieve the appearance and odour of fill typical and consistent for 6 months of use. Exhibiting an absence of free oil throughout the entirety of the trial.
Key emulsion parameters (pH, conductivity, copper content, and active concentration remained stable and within accepted tolerance ranges throughout the duration of the trial.
Conductivity and copper content increases remained minimal and reflected the natural evolution of the emulsion in operation.
This groundbreaking case study highlights the incredible performance of Lubricool™ 960 and the game changing results that manufacturers can achieve by adopting Metalube next generation range of copper wire drawing lubricants.
Why is Lubricool 960 the most sustainable lubricant for the copper wire industry
Lubricool 960 has been formulated from the ground up to be our most sustainable lubricant to date. With a mineral oil-free, synthetic base oil, Lubricool 960 is designed for manufacturers looking to adopt a more eco-friendly production.
The main reason synthetic oils are generally more sustainable than mineral oils largely comes down to how they’re made and how they perform under different conditions. In short, their precise formulation makes them more efficient and work more effectively in production, leading to a more sustainable and longer lasting lubricant.
Here’s the comparison:
- Base Composition
- Mineral oil: Made by refining crude oil. It contains natural impurities and has a mix of molecules of different sizes.
- Synthetic oil: Chemically engineered molecules, designed to have uniform size and structure. Examples include PAO (Polyalphaolefin) or esters.
Benefit: Uniform molecules reduce friction and break down less under heat.
- Temperature Stability
- Mineral oil: Thickens in cold temperatures, making it less effective, and thins at high temperatures (loses protective film).
- Synthetic oil: Maintains a more consistent viscosity across a wide temperature range.
Benefit: Better equipment and wire protection in extreme cold or heat.
- Oxidation and Shear Stability
- Mineral oil: Oxidises and breaks down faster, forming sludge and varnish.
- Synthetic oil: More resistant to oxidation and maintains its chemical structure longer.
Benefit: Cleaner finish on drawn wires and longer oil life.
- Additive Compatibility
- Synthetic oils often work better with modern additives that prevent wear, corrosion, foaming, and improve detergency.
Benefit: Enhanced wire protection and longer intervals between lubricant changes.
- Friction Reduction
- Synthetic oils can be engineered for superior lubrication at the molecular level.
Benefit: Reduced wear on wires and a better finish in drawn wire.
- Longevity
- Synthetic oils typically last 2–3 times longer than mineral oils under normal operating conditions.
Benefit: Fewer sump changes, less environmental waste.
Sustainability is at the core of Lubricool 960. Developed to help manufacturers reduce environmental impact, it offers a fully synthetic, mineral oil-free solution for modern wire drawing operations.
